Setting this blog up, again.

This is my first post for a long time, and since this has no real content, I'll just put in the details of how I set this up:

First off, I went to my already existing blogger.com profile and renamed the old blog that had no real sense at all. It was sorta' kinda' private and I don't want this anymore. This should be a bit more professional and tech related from now on.

Then I made my first major fault: I was looking at how it looked. And it really sucked a lot. In order to get the important and first things first, I left that alone and searched for a syntax highlighter that is usable with the blogger platform.

I ended up with this one: http://alexgorbatchev.com/SyntaxHighlighter/integration.html
It is really easy to set up:

Open the html from your blogger layout, and search for the
and paste this right above:

And that's already it!
I've actually tried to get a working and good looking dark theme up and running and failed after hours of trying and copy pasting.

If anyone knows a good looking dark minimalistic theme for blogger, I would highly appreciate it. What themes are you using as a blogger? What informations I want to show:

  • The list of blog posts I've already written
  • The labels I've set the most, just like a hash area
  • Links to twitter and google+ maybe.
  • A good looking, dark(love this for readability), minimalistic style
And just by the way, why are there just so few themes available as default? At least one good one would be great.

Thanks for any hints and help. And just to let you know, I've made a new rule for myself: if I start a post, I will never ever let it stay in draft mode longer then a day. I hope that works ;)

Edit: Okay, you see it here... all the manuals and tutorials reachable from the site of syntaxhightlighter are old... I've contacted the maintainer in order to write at least an .md file for the github repo...

I love vim

What would programmers do without a good editor?

Today I felt the power of this tool once again.
I was just wondering how I can upcase some hashes in a ruby hash array. I searched a few minutes in np++ and maybe just missed the right click...

There is one big problem for me with that powerful editor/environment. Maybe only for me, it´s really hard to learn when you are not in pressure to use it for every little edit. So as I promised myself, whenever I am in conflict with another editor, or just want to look how easy/hard it would be, look up how that works in vim. I had an idea, how hard the regular expression would be that should be able to ignore the ruby syntax for a hash. What left to do? Google, right. I typed in "vim lowercase"(without the quotes) and there were several results that could help. At the moment I started reading the ugly text under the links I started to realize how stupid the idea to google was. Next step, open vim. then type ":help lowercase" and there it is! I had all the results I needed to get this thing working. I marked the whole hash in the ruby file in visual mode and pressed u. That´s it. I was suprised once again... one key to success. Maybe emacs can do the same for me, and by the way, if you know how comment that please. But the important thing for me was that I started wrong. With vim, always just type :help and the question about thing would be answered.

Today I learned how to get good results with the help and started using marcos. In conclusion, I have to say that it´s worth it to learn vim and after playing arround with my .vimrc this comes arround with some really nice features. Can anyone tell me how to create windows at startup in vim? I thought about having a :Explorer at the left and a console on the lower...

I hope I´ll get some comments. Thanks for reading...
